High schools and colleges can be divided into many categories, based on their size, number of students, or specialty. In this regard, people can signify high schools and colleges both in different respects, where the college would denote a place of higher education, while the high school being the minimum level of education that is required for a person to be called educated. However, if we were to look at both these kinds of institutions as being providers of education to people, we can divide them into two categories according to how much it costs to attend them: public or private.
Public high schools are the most common schools found all over the United States. Every state has several public high schools according to its various counties and cities. These high schools are free to attend for every student, as all the expenses are taken care of through taxes or other state expenditures. Similarly, public colleges, or state schools, are financed in the same manner. However, state colleges are not completely free but they are very affordable for residents of that state. They are also relatively inexpensive for students from other states.
Private high schools are schools that are privately funded and run by a body that does not answer to the state or the federal government. Although they come under the education department of the government and they have to adhere to certain regulations, they do not have to follow the syllabus that is offered by the government. Private school, however, are paid schools and their prices can sometimes be extremely expensive for the average person to afford. The same is true for private colleges, that they are extremely expensive when compared to state colleges, but they boast that they have a better standard of education.
So, we see that high schools and colleges can be divided in many ways, however, one of the ways to classify them with respect to how much it costs to attend them is by categorizing them as being either public or private. They each have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages and a person would have to take in many factors in account before deciding which kind of institution to attend.
